Golden Deli History

1981 was a momentous year for San Gabriel, California, as the creators of Golden Deli were quietly setting the stage for a culinary revolution. Little did the local community know, a remarkable Vietnamese dining experience was about to be introduced to this quaint Los Angeles suburb.

The Golden Deli, a renowned establishment, was established by a Vietnamese couple who migrated to Los Angeles in 1975. Accompanying them on this journey were their immense love, hopeful expectations, and vivid dreams. In the subsequent year, they celebrated their union with a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony, making them the inaugural couple to be wed in such a manner at the esteemed Mission San Gabriel Arcángel. Inspired by their passion, the founders wholeheartedly dedicated themselves to transforming their aspirations into tangible achievements, resulting in the birth of the beloved Golden Deli.

Golden Deli, originally a Chinese fast food spot, quickly expanded its offerings to include authentic Vietnamese cuisine on weekends. The overwhelming demand for Golden Deli's Vietnamese dishes proved to be a huge success. Recognizing this, the founders made the strategic decision to switch gears and have their menu exclusively feature traditional Vietnamese delicacies within just a couple of years. Presently, Golden Deli boasts an extensive menu with over one hundred delectable options. Among the standout items are the Pho Dac Biet, a delightful rice noodle soup featuring ribeye, brisket, tendon, and tripe. Another popular choice is the Com Suon, delectable pork chops served with rice. Additionally, the Cha Gio, or egg rolls, continue to win the hearts of diners as a beloved homestyle dish. To complement these mouthwatering meals, Golden Deli offers a range of refreshing beverages. Customers can enjoy Soda Chanh, a lemonade soda, 3 Mau, a delightful three-color bean drink, or the classic Cafe Sua Da, an iced coffee enhanced with condensed milk. Visit Golden Deli to savor the finest Vietnamese cuisine and indulge in these beloved traditional dishes and beverages.

After being established for over four decades, Golden Deli continues to attract hungry patrons eager for more. A renowned food critic once declared Phan Chao Tom, Golden Deli's shrimp paste served with sugar cane, as the most delicious skewered dish he has ever tasted. Another critic praised Golden Deli's Cha Gio as the finest in the entire observable universe. However, don't simply rely on our accolades; come and immerse yourself in the full experience of what Golden Deli has to offer. With a diverse menu, there's something to satisfy every palate.
